Carambola, also known as starfruit, is the fruit of Averrhoa carambola, Please visit wikipedia for all details. It grows almost everywhere and is beautiful, very tasty, particularly for children. Rich in vit C, antioxidants and potassium. Fruits abundantly, suffers very few pests. I think all schools, community centres, village roadsides must have this moderate high tree. Let the fruits be available freely to children. It would be a cheap source of Vit C for school children. Friends who know where these seedlings are available should procure / buy and distribute widely. Once a community gets used to it, they will propagate and maintain. One can make a large number of dishes with the star fruit.
monsoon and falling avenue trees
The tree species and number of each species that have fallen in each monsoon city wise strike may be listed and approx age of the tree could be recorded. This would tell us which tree species we should avoid planting on the roadside or near buildings to avoid the damage, loss of life and also we would get many other details. The details thus collected should be brought to the public knowledge and specialists by name seeking their input. We must start scientifically/rationally planting for tomorrow.
